Lower Dolpo Trek is well known as the ‘hidden treasure of Nepal’. It has only been open since 1988. You will have the chance to explore the remote and sparsely populated areas of Nepal.
The main attraction of lower Dolpo circuit trek in Nepal is that you will be trekking towards the fantastic ‘Phoksundo Lake.’ You will be able to see beautiful flora and fauna surrounding the lake. It is one of the deepest lakes in Nepal.
As the trial of lower Dolpo trekking is near to the Tibetan border, the locals follow the ancient Tibetan Buddhism known as the ‘Bon Po.’ Their primary income is by trading items of salt, cotton, barley and rice in Tibet. They preserved their lifestyle, and you will be able to see that it is almost untouched by the trappings of modern society.
For those who wanted to avoid busy & crowded trekking trials such as Annapurna circuit trek and Everest base camp trek, trekking to Lower Dolpo is the perfect destination.
The lower Dolpo trek will start from Juphal after two consecutive flights. We will be walking alongside the Bheri river. As we trek up, there will be farms and village areas.
As we move forward to Numa La Base Camp, we will pass by the monasteries. The walk will be quite exciting as the valley becomes narrow gorge, at some places you may have to jump from one side to another.
As you reach the village of Dho Tarap, you will see an irregular stone wall surrounding it. In the area of Chepka, there will be many important medicinal minerals which are believed to cure almost anything.
We will be heading back after that to Jhupal from where we again catch a flight to Nepalgunj and a connecting flight back to Kathmandu. During the lower Dolpo circuit trekking, you can see blue sheep, Himalayan black bear, leopard, snow leopard, mountain goat, Jackal etc.
